The St. Peter’s Economic Development Organization (SPEDO) is a collective of local businesses and community groups working together to establish a framework for community growth and economic development.
SPEDO was incorporated on November 23, 2006 to steer capital improvement projects for the Village of St. Peter’s. A conceptual plan outlined short-term projects such as the Mainstreet Program (civic improvements including signage, parking, information kiosks, benches and lighting) and Façade Program (funding assistance to renew business facades). Both projects were completed between 2010 and 2013.
Since then SPEDO’s work has been focused on developing tourism as part of a plan adopted by the Municipality of Richmond County as well as supporting local tourism events. KitchenRackets - a series of live music events including jam sessions, camps and workshops - has been operating for the past 10 years. The Village also hosts the annual Lobsterfest, Pirate Days and popular Swim the Canal event.
Today SPEDO is reviewing its long-term goals in order to move forward as a champion of the future vision and planning for St. Peter’s economic development.
